 Copper Canyon, our tour of the Mexican mainland, reveals the uncommonly visited State of Chihuahua. Here, we share a rare and special visit to some of the oldest villages in Mexico, which lie deep in the treacherous Sierra Madre Mountains. The tone is amazing in this place where 5000-foot deep canyons proffer unmistakable differences in both terrain and climate. On this trip, we approach nearly 8000’ in altitude, where the temperature is cool and pine forests, rock formations, lakes, and even desert waterfalls abound. Upon reaching the valley floor, we find tropical vegetation and higher temperatures. This unearthly tour is known for its dramatically steep valley walls which provide a number of challenging ascents and reward us later with singletrack descents of over 4000 feet! This tour comes complete with home cooked Mexican cuisine, covert wooded Tarahumara Indian tribe cabins, and a night to sleep comfortably under the stars. If you are looking for remoteness, this is definitely the road less traveled. You won’t find the “gringo” trail here! The locals here are passionate about sport and even have a soccer-style tournament which may have a goal that is more than 100 miles away! Now that’s determination.
